THE WORD & THE WAY

Women's Community Faith Conversations

Exploring Scripture.

Asking honest questions.

Living faithfully.

What does Scripture say—and what does it mean

for the way we actually live?

Tea Time

There is a place at the table for you.  The Word & The Way is a 24-week gathering for women who want to explore Scripture, talk honestly about faith, and consider what biblical truth looks like in real, everyday life.

You may have a deep and abiding faith.

You may have questions.

You may be searching.

You may be returning to faith after some time away.

You may simply be curious.

All are welcome.

Women from all Christian traditions are invited—and you don't have to have all the answers before you come.

What THE WORD & THE WAY Is

COME GATHER WITH US

The first gatherings will take place in a home—intentionally.

In the early days of Christianity, followers of Jesus were known as people of “the Way.” They often gathered in homes to share meals, pray, learn, remember Jesus' teachings, and encourage one another.

Before there were church buildings and established Christian institutions, there were people gathering around a table and around the Word.

We want to begin in that spirit.

A place that feels personal rather than formal.

A place where we can listen as well as speak.

A place where questions are welcome.

A place where faith can deepen through Scripture and through one another.

If we eventually outgrow the home, we'll find a larger space—but we'll carry that same spirit of welcome and community with us.

WHAT WE'LL EXPLORE

Book With Glasses

Over 24 weeks, we'll take a journey through some of the foundational questions of Christian faith—and some of the questions that become much more complicated when we begin applying Scripture to real life.

MOVEMENT I — THE FOUNDATION

Who is God? Who are we? What is truth?

  1. Who Is God?

  2. Who Is Jesus Christ?

  3. The Word & Truth

  4. The Holy Spirit

MOVEMENT II — TRUSTING GOD

What does it mean to receive rather than earn?

  1. Grace

  2. Sin

  3. Repentance & Forgiveness

  4. The Will of God

MOVEMENT III — BECOMING

What does God intend human life to become?

  1. Love

  2. Fulfillment: Identity, Values & Self-Worth

  3. Discipline

  4. Lord & King: Servanthood

MOVEMENT IV — MYSTERY & FAITH

What do we do with the things we cannot resolve?

  1. Prayer & Intercession

  2. Miracles

  3. Evil, Suffering & Spiritual Warfare

  4. The Book of Life: Predestination & Free Will

MOVEMENT V — THE PEOPLE OF GOD

What does it mean to belong?

  1. What Is the Church?

  2. Worship

  3. Sacraments: What Is Holy?

  4. Saints & Community

MOVEMENT VI — THE WAY WE LIVE

If we believe this, how then shall we live?

  1. Service & Stewardship

  2. Evangelism & Witness

  3. Success, Greed & Entitlement

  4. The Good News: Living the Way

The progression is intentional.

We begin with God and Christ, move into grace and trust, wrestle with mystery, explore what it means to be the people of God, and ultimately ask what it looks like to live our faith in the world around us.

HOW IT WORKS

The Word & The Way isn't a lecture where someone stands at the front and gives everyone the answers.

It's a conversation around Scripture.

DURING THE WEEK

You'll receive Scripture passages and journal prompts to explore before we gather.

READ
Read the assigned Scripture slowly.

REFLECT
Journal with the provided prompts.

NOTICE
Pay attention to what draws you, troubles you, confuses you, or challenges you.

COME
Come prepared not with the answer, but with what you are discovering.

WHEN WE GATHER

Our time together will include:

GROUNDING
A simple grounding practice, silence, or meditation.

PRAYER
We begin and end together in prayer.

SCRIPTURE
We remember and reflect upon what we've read during the week.

CONVERSATION
We share questions, insights, experiences, and perspectives.

INTEGRATION
We ask:

“What might this mean for how I live?”

And then we close together in prayer.

THE WORD & THE WAY "FIVE"

Every week, we'll return to five simple questions:

1. What does Scripture actually say?

2. What do I notice?

What draws me? What troubles me? What surprises me?

3. What does this reveal about God—and about us?

4. What questions does this raise?

Questions are welcome. Uncertainty is welcome.

5. What might this look like in my actual life?

Because knowing Scripture is important.

But living it is the Way.

THIS IS A PLACE FOR QUESTIONS

We won't always agree.

And that's okay.

The Word & The Way is intentionally ecumenical. Women from different Christian traditions are welcome to bring their own experiences, traditions, convictions, and questions.

We will seek to:

  • Listen to understand rather than prepare a response.

  • Let Scripture challenge all of us—including ourselves.

  • Speak from our own experience.

  • Make room for questions and uncertainty.

  • Hold conviction with humility.

  • Resist the need to fix or correct one another.

  • Be willing to say, “I don't know.”

  • Be willing to say, “I may have been wrong.”

  • Protect one another's vulnerability and trust.

We don't have to agree on everything to learn from one another.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Do I need to belong to a particular church?

No.

The Word & The Way is intentionally ecumenical. Women from all Christian traditions are welcome.

  • What if I'm not sure what I believe?

Come anyway.

If you're searching, questioning, returning to faith, or simply curious about what Scripture says, you are welcome here.

  • Do I need to know the Bible well?

Not at all.

You don't need a theological degree, a lifetime of Bible study, or the right answers.

We'll learn together.

  • Will someone be teaching the Bible?

There will be biblical context and guidance, but this isn't primarily a teacher-led class.

The emphasis is on reading Scripture, asking thoughtful questions, listening, and engaging in conversation.

  • What happens if I disagree with someone?

We expect different perspectives.

Our goal isn't to win arguments. We'll practice listening carefully, speaking respectfully, and remaining rooted in Scripture.

  • What should I bring?

Bring your Bible, a journal, and yourself.

You'll receive the Scripture passages and reflection questions for the upcoming gathering so you can spend time with them during the week.

  • Why does it begin in a home?

Because that's intentional.

The earliest followers of Jesus—the people of the Way—often gathered in homes. We want to begin with that same sense of intimacy, welcome, shared life, and community.

If we grow beyond the space available, we'll find a larger gathering place.

  • What does it cost?

A free will offering will be accepted each week to cover materials and refreshments

  • Do I have to commit to all 24 weeks?

The 24 weeks are designed as a journey, so we encourage women to participate as consistently as possible. At the same time, we understand that life happens. Come when you can.

YOU'RE INVITED

Maybe you've been looking for a Bible study.

Maybe you've been looking for community.

Maybe you've been looking for a place where you can ask the questions

you've been afraid to ask.

Maybe you've simply been looking for a place to sit down, open Scripture,

talk about what it means.

Come.

You don't have to arrive with certainty.

You don't have to have your faith figured out.

You don't have to know anyone.

Come as you are.

Pull up a chair.

There's a place for you here.
